THE GREY CUP is being held in dEadmonton this week. The national anthem will be sung only in English. Not to shocking when it comes to Alberta, USA. But Edmonton is playing against Montreal. AND right on the above web page it actually says "Proudly supported by the Government of Canada. Call 1 800 O-Canada"
Now I ask you. Is this remotely Canadian?
Posted by jason at November 23, 2002 08:06 AMAt the risk of being labelled insensitive, I ask... if the Quebecois can legislate everything to be "French only" inside their province, why can't other provinces do the same with our other official language? Just because that other language happens to be a tool of global cultural and communicative hegemony...? Or something more profound?
